The ZAL2/2^m data point represents F_ST within the inversion interval between the arrangements and is the only value to show significant population structure (p < 0.01). The ZAL2/2^m† data point represents the F_ST outside the inversion on white-throated sparrow chromosome 2. Note that the chromosomes labeled as Chr refer to the predicted orthologous chromosome in chicken. Also note the negative F_ST values are an artifact of the method used to calculate this statistic using sequence comparisons and are not significantly different from 0.
