$P I C = 1 - \sum_{i = 1}^{n} P_{i}^{2} - \sum_{i = 1}^{n - 1} \sum_{j = i + 1}^{n} 2 P_{i}^{2} P_{j}^{2}$
where P_i is the frequency of the ith allele, P_j is the frequency of the jth allele and n is the number of animals in the population.
