  1. 1Logarithm of odds (LOD) score was calculated as LOD = log10[L(QTL)/L(polygenic)] where L = likelihood of the model. QTL with LOD ≥ 2 was defined as suggestive QTL (*); and QTL with LOD ≥ 3 or P GenomeWide ≤ 0.05 was defined as significant QTL (**).
  2. 2The genome-wide significance level for detected QTL was estimated as P GenomeWide  = 1 − (1 − P)g, where P is the nominal P-value, and g = 365 STR loci used with variance components method of QTL analysis.
  3. 3h u 2 is the residual genetic variance or proportion of the total variance due to the polygenic component.
  4. 4h q 2 is the heritability associated with the QTL or proportion of the total variance due to the QTL.
  5. 5The QTL flanking markers OMM5106a, OMM1408, OMM1130, BX913059 and OMM5143 had significant Mendelian segregation distortion (P <0.01) in families 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, respectively.
