daf-2(rf) allelic variation for freeze–thaw stress survival. After freeze–thaw treatment, daf-2(e1370) had the highest survival rate followed by e1391, e1371, e979, m579, and sa193. Four strains (e1368, m596, m41, and m577) had no increased survival rate compared with wild-type (N2) animals. Survival rate analysis was repeated at least five times under similar conditions; mean lifespan values and statistical analyses of survival assays are shown in Additional file 5: Table S1. Statistical significance of differences between daf-2(rf) and N2 strains was assessed by the Mann–Whitney test. *p < 0.05, **p < 0.01, ****p < 0.0001, n.s. - not significant
