Key stages involved in transcriptional regulation of 1, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D (1,25(OH) 2 D). The ligand (1,25(OH)2D) binds to the vitamin D receptor (VDR), which stimulates the heterodimerization of VDR with retinoid X receptor gamma (RXRG), followed by binding of the VDR/RXRG complex to the vitamin D response element (VDRE) and leading to the transcriptional activation of the target genes.
